Etienne Chevalier with St. Stephen , Jean Fouquet (Melun Diptych)
Jean Fouquet was commissioned to paint this and Madonna Surrounded by Seraphim and Cherubim as a diptych by Etienne Chevalier, treasurer to France’s King Charles VII. The left panel (this print) depicts the patron with St. Stephen, the first Christian martyr.
Fouquet was a French painter and miniaturist. A master of panel painting and manuscript illumination, and the apparent inventor of the portrait miniature, he is considered one of the most important painters from the period between the late Gothic and early Renaissance. He was the first French artist to travel to Italy and experience first-hand the early Italian Renaissance.
Available as a fine art print and as a stretched canvas panel (heavy fine art canvas stretched over 1.5 inch deep edge solid wood frame).
All prints are made using archival art stocks and UV pigment inks to give up to 200 years life. Prints are sold unframed and unmounted.
