- 🎨 Othon Friesz, born Achille-Émile Othon Friesz, was a French artist associated with the Fauvist movement.
- 🏫 He studied at the Le Havre School of Fine Arts and later in Paris, where he met prominent artists like Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, and Georges Rouault.
- 🖌️ Friesz rebelled against academic teaching and joined the Fauves, exhibiting with them in 1907, but later returned to a more traditional style of painting.
- ⚔️ He served in the army during World War I and resumed painting in Paris afterward, with occasional trips elsewhere.
- 💼 Friesz’s later works departed from Fauvism, showing influences of artists like Cézanne, with a more restrained palette and a focus on logical composition.
- ⚰️ He died in Paris in 1949 and is buried in the Cimetière du Montparnasse.
- 🖼️ Friesz’s notable paintings include “Paysage à La Ciotat,” “Le Travail à l’Automne,” and “Les Baigneuses des Andelys.”
